RPC and Filmbar's screening of Hamdan Ballal's "No Other Land" (2024) at the Research and Publication Centre (RPC), on Friday, April 25, 2025 at 6:00 pm

RPC and Filmbar's screening of Hamdan Ballal's "No Other Land" (2024) at the Research and Publication Centre (RPC), on Friday, April 25, 2025 at 6:00 pm.

This film made by a Palestinian-Israeli collective shows the destruction of the occupied West Bank’s Masafer Yatta by Israeli soldiers and the alliance that develops between the Palestinian activist Basel and Israeli journalist Yuval.

The Oscar-winning documentary is significant because it humanises the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by focusing on the daily lives of Palestinians in Masafer Yatta, a community facing forced displacement by the Israeli government. The film highlights the resilience of these people, their struggle to preserve their way of life, and the impact of Israeli policies on their lives. It serves as a powerful reminder of the human cost of the conflict, challenging viewers to confront the often-overlooked reality on the ground. Despite facing displacement and violence, the Palestinians in the film demonstrate their determination to stay on their land and preserve their culture and way of life.

Address: Research and Publication Centre (RPC), 2nd Floor, 65 Main Boulevard Gulberg, Lahore (Next to Standard Chartered Bank, above Indesign Showroom).

Lift is functional.

The screening will be followed by an informal discussion. All friends are welcome. Tea will be served.

Filmbar and RPC's screening of Wim Wenders' "Perfect Days" at the Research and Publication Centre (RPC) on Friday, April 18, 2025 at 6:00 pm

Filmbar and RPC's screening of Wim Wenders' "Perfect Days" (2023) at the Research and Publication Centre (RPC) on Friday, April 18, 2025 at 6:00 pm.

"Perfect Days" is the story of Hirayama, a man who cleans public toilets in Tokyo. He lives a simple life with a focus on finding tranquillity in his daily tasks, but even a simple life has its pressures and complexities that create poignant moments of self-reflection as he experiences the joy and pain that come with the consequences of his choices. Outside of his structured routine, he cherishes music on cassette tapes, books, and taking photos of trees. Through unexpected encounters, he reflects on finding beauty in the world. The visual elements of the film are poetic in how they are filmed from the angles to the objects and locations.

Filmbar and RPC's screening of "All We Imagine As Light" at the Research and Publication centre (RPC) on Friday, April 11, 2025 at 6:00 pm

Filmbar and RPC's screening of Payal Kapadia's "All We Imagine As Light" at the Research and Publication Centre (RPC), on Friday, April 11, 2025, at 6:00 pm.

This movie is about the dreams of millions of invisible migrants who come to Mumbai with the hope of improving their lives, yet struggle to belong to a place that fully embraces them. It's about how women remain invisible in India, because their personhood continues to be filtered through a patriarchal mindset which fails to acknowledge them as individuals who are free to choose what they desire. They must fiercely contest for space in a society preoccupied with socially and morally policing their right to self-determination. The director wants us to pay attention to the lives of those that contemporary India has conveniently forgotten.

This is the first Indian film to win the prestigious Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival (2024).
